crude oil Flashcards
what is crude oil
a mixture of hydrocarbons( hydrocarbons are made of hydrogen and carbon atoms)
how do the carbon atoms join in crude oil
joined into chains of different length, hydrogen atoms come off the carbon atoms.
when is crude oil useful
when it is seperated via boiling point through the use of heat to get different fractions (type of hydrocarbons) out of it.
do smaller chains boil at lower temperatures
yes , opposite for longer chains.
where does fractional distillation occur, for example, to separate crude oil?
oil refinery
where does oil come from
the sea or abroad
what is fractional distillation
the separation of substances via boiling point through heat to get different types of fractions (hydrocarbons) out of it.=more useful
