Crown Lengthening Flashcards
What are the 2 indications for crown lengthening?
Functional Esthetics
•It is the vertical axial wall that
surrounds the tooth
•Desired every time a crown is
fabricated to help resist
fracture &/or crown
displacement
Ferrule
How much of a ferrule is desired for retention of a crown?
at least 2mm
What is the minimum amount of time you must wait before putting a final restoration after crown lengthening?
6 weeks
CEJ should be approximately _____ from osseous crest
2 mm
Gingival margin should be __-__ mm coronal to the CEJ (i.e.,
covering anatomic crown)
0.5‐2.0 mm
When eruption does not progress past Stage 1 or 2 it is termed ______
Altered Passive Eruption.
•Morphologic variant where CEJ
is less than 2mm from osseous
crest
•Can be exacerbated by
orthodontic brackets
Altered Active eruption
•Morphological variant where
gingiva is more than 2mm
coronal to CEJ
•Can be exacerbated by
inflammation, medications
Altered passive eruption
Adequate KG; MGJ apical to osseous crest; adequate
distance from CEJ to bone crest
Type 1 A
What is treatment for Type 1 A?
Gingevectomy
Adequate KG; MGJ apical to osseous crest BUT
osseous crest at CEJ
Type 1 B
What is treatment for Type 1 B?
Gingival scallop with Internal bevel then ostectomy
with unchanged flap position
Inadequate KG; MGJ at or coronal to osseous crest
Type II A
What is the treatment for Type II A?
Apically Positioned flap (don’t want to remove any KG)
