Cross Hearing & Masking Overview Flashcards
What is the difference between ipsilateral and contralateral?
What is the difference between the test ear (TE) and non-test ear (NTE)?
Define crossover
Sounds in the test ear are intense enough to stimulate the non-test ear so that sound is present in the non-test ear
Define cross hearing / shadow hearing
Occurs when the intensity of the sound at the non-test ear is perceived or audible
What is the shadow curve?
What is interaural attenuation?
Sound energy is “lost” or absorbed as the signal crosses over from one ear to the other
What are the IA values for the different transducers?
T/F: with insert earphones, IA is greater in the lower frequencies compared to higher frequencies
True
T/F: IA for most individuals is 40 dB when using headphones
False
T/F: IA is greater when using supra-aural headphones compared to using insert earphones
False
Greater the IA, greater the chance of cross hearing
False
T/F: occlusion effect is greater when using shallow seated insert earphones compared to deep seated insert earphones
False
T/F: Cross hearing occurs primarily via bone conduction
True
