Monoculture
The continuous cultivation and production of only one crop on a plot of land for many years
Multicropping
The cultivation of two of more crops simultaneously on the same plot of land
Intercropping
The cultivation of a short-term crop such as lettuce, between a medium term crop
Crop rotation
The cultivation of selected crops in succession to one another
Phase Cropping
The system of continuous cropping and harvesting
Strip cropping
This is the planting of different crops in strips of varying width on flat, undulating or sloping land
Contour cropping
Another method of conserving soil on sloping land. Land is ploughed along the contours and then the crops are planted
Mixed farming
May be small/med/lg and produce both crops and livestocks
Cover cropping
Used to improve soil fertility and prevent soil erosion. Planting a crop that grows rapidly and provides cover on bare soil
