Lash
v. to hit or criticize someone or something
• After I had defeated him in the game, he lashed at me.
• Going on social media and seeing people lashing out at each other is a pretty normal occurrence and is inevitable.
• People had enough of him so they lashed him out.
Vitriol
n. very cruel and bitter comments or criticism
- She’s so low in every survey because of the constant spewing of vitriol.
- Every new president has to face vitriol.
- Your comments are nothing but a nonsense vitriol.
Chide
v. to scold or criticize someone for doing something wrong, usually in a mild, gentle way
chide somebody/yourself (for something/for doing something)
- The parents chided their child for stealing chocolates from his affectionate friend.
- He chides himself for being lazy and peevish from time to time.
- Some members were chided for their inactivity.
Rejoinder
n. a reply, usually a sharp or witty one
- He had felt ticked off when he got interrupted right before he threw his cutting rejoinder.
- No one was impressed by his supposed clever rejoinder, as a result it was an ignominious situation.
- The teacher made a sarcastic rejoinder to the bully that completely humiliated him.
