Appeal to the Person
Ad Hominem
The rejecting of a statement on the grounds that it comes from a particular person, not because the statement, or claim, itself is false or dubious.
Straw Man Fallacy
The straw man fallacy is the misrepresentation of a person’s views so that he or she can be more easily attacked or dismissed.
Modus Ponens
Affirming the Antecedent
If p, then q.
p.
Therefore, q.
Valid.
Valid Arguement
If the premises are true, then the conclusion must be true.
Sound Arguement
A valid arguement with valid premises.
Inductive Reasoning
Intended to provide a preponderance of support for a conclusion.
Deductive Reasoning
Intended to provide proof of a conclusion.
Fallacy
Common but bad arguements. Deceptively plausible appeals.
