Conclusion:
In conclusion, the thought-provoking essay, “Marrakech” by George Orwell is a text in which… Orwell successfully… of Marrakech through his clever use of writing techniques such as similes and anecdotes. His in-depth descriptions create a genuine reflection about the harsh and unfair consequences that the inevitable downfall of imperialism brought upon the people of Marrakech. Orwell’s detest towards the evils of colonialism are made clear through his extensive efforts to show the reader that colonialism does much more harm than good, and is simply just a form of racial oppression and exploitation to fund the greed of the colonisers. His words shine a light on the reality of colonialism, which is in fact whole communities of people struggling to survive with a ridiculously insignificant amount of food and money, whilst living in extremely deprived and unsanitary conditions. This essay has allowed me to understand how brutal the people of Marrakech’s lives were at the hands of the colonisers and how unfair this was on them. I feel disgusted that this was allowed to happen, and that it’s effects still impact today’s society. Thanks to Orwell’s writing I now know that others must be educated on the effects to prevent this from happening again
