Criteria 2 Flashcards
What is in experiment design
- Variable - anything that can change in an experiment
- IV - Things you can change in an experiment
- DV - The thing that is measured. Depends on the IV
- CV - The things that we want to keep the same
- Hx - Hypothesis an educated guess
- Ho - something that is easy to disprove and know nothing will happen
Common problems with an experiment
problems with
- sample size
- repeats
- control variable
-inconsistencies
- unethical experiment
Types of enviro surveys -
Transects (Belt as well) and Quadrats
Random sampling (Stratified, Continuous, Systematic)
Nonmotile organisms
Remote sensing
CMR Capture Mark Recapture
The lincoln index for calculating pop size while using cmr
Baseline and Continuous monitoring
- Nets and trawls
Field techniques are
For the study of an ecosystem.
Remote sensing
A way to measure the characteristics of a specific area and the things in it by using reflective electromagnetic radiation.
It is the process of using EMR to project images into a digitalized or physical form of atrial shots of a land area
it is used to take images of Motile and nonmotile things without having to make contact with them.
Remote sensing helps with disaster management such as flood and drought warnings.
Passive v Active remote sensing
Passive is used by the sun and most sensors and systems work using solar energy.
Active sees the EMR sent from remote sensing platforms to the target to be reflected back.
Anything above 0 degrees kelvin emits some radiation.
Recording, displaying and manipulating data
Quantitive is a numerical value
Qualitative is descriptive
Continuous data does not stop, there is always data between points
Discrete data has nothing between ie test scores (Countable)
Abiotic
Things that are not derived from living organisms.
Temperature, water, air, light, soil
Indicator species
A species that indicates and reflects the environment that it lives in. They are an organism whose presence, absence, or abundance reflects a specific environmental condition.
I.e Frogs and lichens
