Cristians Renewable Energy Flashcards
Fossil fuel pros and cons
Cons : will run out and damage environment
Pros: reliable
Renewable pros and cons:
Pros: infinite
Don’t damage enviroment as much
Cons: unreliable don’t provide as much energy
Wind
Each turbine has a generator powered by rotating blades
Pros: no pollution mininal maintance
Con: noisy/ eye sore
Un reliable
Solar
Pros: no pollution Can be effective in sunny areas Cons: cannot increase out put High intial cost Unreliable
Geothermal
Powered by heat cuased by the Earth decay
Pros: free, reliable, no environmental damage
Cons: expensive and rare
Hydro electric:
Flood valley with big dam and allow water through spinning turbines
Con: flood environment, problem if drought, high intial cost
Pro: can control out put
low maintance
Wavee power
Pro: low maintnce, no fuel cost
Cons: bad for marine life, intial cost high, unrliable if wind drops out, problem for boat
Tidal barriage
Dams built across rivers estuaries (tidal power)
Con: altering habitat spiling view, intial cost high, tide height can vary, prevent boats
Pro: some what reliable, no fuel and low maintance
Bio fules
From plants or dung
Pro: carbon nuetral, reliable
Cons: high cost, cannot be used in high demand, can take place of forsst loss of habitat and co2 emissions
Sustainablity def
The ablity for a process to be continued indefinately without damaging and degrading the environment which is relies on
