Intervention when a patient is angry and questioning safety interventions?
Acknowledge the patient’s feelings of frustration and reaffirming the need of safety is the priority. Remain calm, matter-of-fact in the situation when tolerating a patient’s outburst.
**Validation of pt’s feelings and info about the intention of the intervention (one-on-one observation) is to keep the pt safe.
Are pts resistant to verbal suggestions during crisis?
No, pts are open to suggestions during crisis. They are ready to depend on others for assistance with decision making. They are free and direct expression of anxiety.
Focus of crisis intervention?
Focus on the PRESENT, crisis intervention is viewed as “here-and-now” type of therapy. The goal is to reestablish equilibrium and return the pt to precrisis levels of functioning. Focus at the problem at hand, the nurse cannot proceed past that!
