FUNCTIONALISTS:
see the CJS as a VITAL INSTITUTION that works to ENSURE SOCIAL SOLIDARITY and COHESION by MAINTAINING LAW and ORDER

MARXIST: the CJS is a REPRESSIVE STATE APPARATUS that is used by the RULING CLASS to MAINTAIN POWER THROUGH OPPRESSION whilst APPEARING LEGITIMATE.

FEMINIST: the CJS is a TOOL of the PATRIARCHY to MAINTAIN POWER, most members of the CJS are men due to this women face a DOUBLE DEVIANCY and DOUBLE VICTIMISATION.

HOME OFFICE:

  • oversees the police, protects the public from terror, crime and anti-social behaviour.
