What is the social definition of criminal behaviour?
If a society has said that an act is a crime, then it becomes one.
What is the legal definition of criminal behaviour?
Behaviour that breaks the law and for which you are punished by the legal system.
E.G: murder
What are the two types of formal sanctions against criminals?
Non-court sanctions and court sanctions
Give one example of a non-court sanction and explain it
Cautions- are administered by the police for minor crimes such as graffiti on a bus shelter.
Give an example of a court sanction and explain it
Custodian sentences- are where you are immediately sent to prison .
Identify two types of criminal acts and give examples of them.
Sexual offences- rape
Drug offences- possession of a controlled drug.
