What is the definition of criminal law?
A
Criminal law is concerned with the public’s best interest, it aims to to give justice to society as a whole. Any crimes committed will be against the state/monarch Vs the defendant, if the defendant is found guilty and is then sentenced this can range from fines, prison or community service.

What is the definition of civil law?
A
Civil law is concerned with disputes/quarrels against individuals and organisations that may have with each other, this aims to give justice to the victim by compensation that the convicted (guilty) defendant has to pay for, usually for damages it caused to the victim.
e.g David v Smith
