Battle of Alma? Battle and aftermath.

A

The British had landed in Varna in Bulgaria in order to fight the Russians in Wallachia and Moldavia. However, the Russians performed poorly against the Ottomans and chose to withdraw back to Russia, The French and British then decide to try and take Sevastopol. The British land at Kalamita bay. The Russian forces were hidden in two redoubts at the top of a river valley, The British advance across the river with the 93rd Highlanders performing especially well. The Russian forces eventually retreat however, Raglan fails to commit his cavalry allowing a large number of Russians to escape.

Battle of Balaclava? battle and aftermath

A

The British forces rather than carrying out a direct attack on the fortress over water instead pushed towards the deep water port at Balaclava for the sake of supply. The Russians decide to carry out a surprise attack meaning that the French Struggle to reach the location in time. The thin red line forms when the 93rd Highland infantry under Collin Campbell hold the line against Ryzhov’s cavalry charge, Ragland sends in the 300 men heavy brigade to support and save the 93rd Highlanders.
Charge of the light brigade in order to prevent Russians for capturing Russian guns however, the cavalry instead charge the Russian guns leading to 110 being killed and 161 being wounded.

The Russians are attempting to relieve the forces at Sebastopol. The Russians carry out a surprise attack during a foggy morning which led to chaos due to the poor quality of vision leading to a costly battle.

Disease was rampant outside the fortress as the British were poorly equipped for the Winter months. Railway completed in March 1855,
8th September 1855 British assault on Great Redan fails however, French forces successfully take the Malakoff.
