Steps for conducting a reconnaissance

A
  • Gather info from staff at scene, witnesses, victim
  • Est. CAP - without disturbing scene
  • Sketch scene and note anything of significance
  • Take action to preserve evidence - weather/animals
  • Reconsider scene boundaries
  • Consider placement of zones (hot, warm, cold)

Exhibit handling/packaging at the scene

A
  • use stepping plates and zones (hot, warm, cold)
  • use protective clothing incl. face mask, double gloves - remove outer glove between handling each exhibit
  • use new, clean packaging materials
  • Keep accurate records
  • Avoid examining assoc. scenes incl. the victim
  • Ensure integrity and continuity with correct recording, packaging, sealing and labelling.
