When a crime scene may be established
May be established:
- Traffic accident resulting in death or serious injury
- Serious indictable offence
- Evidence of serious indictable offence committed elsewhere

- Police officer who establishes crime scene must give the public notice that the premises is a crim scene
- Must not be established on the same premises more than one in a 24 hour period unless crime scene warrant is obtained or it is a separate offence

- Notify senior police officer
- 4 hours or less
- 6 hours of less in rural area

- Apply to an authorised officer for a crime scene warrant to protect evidence

- Leave direct person to leave the crime scene or remove vehicle
- Remove person who fails to comply with direction to leave from crime scene
- Direct person not to enter crime scene
- Prevent person from entering crime scene
- Prevent person from removing evidence from or otherwise interfering with crime scene, for that purpose detain and search person
- Remove obstructions
- Investigate
- Open anything that is locked
- Take electricity, gas or utility for use at crime scene
- Direct occupier to maintain continuous supply of electricity
- Photograph or record crime scene
- seize and detain anything that might provide evidence
- Dig up anything
- Remove wall, linings, floors of building of panels of vehicle
