Strip
Divide scene into parallel strips, then search back and forth along parallel strips until area is thoroughly searched, Repeat in opposite direct
Double Strip or Grid
Divide area into strips at right angles to each other. Search first parallel to the long side, then parallel to the short side of the area. Repeat in reverse direction.
Concentric Circle or Spiral
Begin searching at a point in the center of the pertinent area and work in a circular path extending outward
Information to be included in a sketch
- The investigators full name and rank
- The date, time, crime classification and case number
- The full name of any person assisting in taking measurements
- The address of the crime scene, its position in a building landmarks and compass direction
- The scale of the drawings if a scale drawing has been made
Coordinate Method
Uses the principle of measuring the distance of an object from two fixed point
Cross-projection Method
Is sketching is useful when the items or locations of interest are on or in the wall surfaces as well as elsewhere in an enclosed space.
