  1. punishment systems are repressive state apparatus (RSA). Keeping proletariat in their place and oppressed.

2.punishment in modern society is 2 tiered becuase people of different economic treated differently . eg mc can pay compensation

  • prison populations are growing. since 1993 it has doubled
  • 2/3 of offenders reoffend , majority
  • Vulnerable people placed under control of multiple instituions , doesnt help rehab them
