crime is when a person is caught for breaking a fromal law
what is a law
law is a way in which the government set rules with fomal consequnces to maintain social order
what is deviance
deviance is when people act in a way that is socially unnacceptable. they go against the norms an values of society
example
what is considered crime or deviant changes over time
for example in the past smoking was socially acceptable to smoke anywhere. For example, we saw sports events being sponsored by ciggarete companies which in turn means that it is everywhere and all are doing it. however in 2024 society has had a norm shift due to more info and knowledge about the dangers of smoking an how governments have changed the law.
crime rates over the last 10 years
Crime rates in the UK have increased in recent years by 10%
-a decrease in domestic abuse but an increase in sexual abuse
-crimes in fraud and knife and sharp instruments are increasing
-main crime is robbery
-crime decreased during the pandemic
