If Your Peers Were To Describe You In Three Words, What Would They Be?
My peers would likely describe me as empathetic, driven, and dependable. I always strive to understand others’ perspectives, set ambitious goals, and ensure I’m someone they can rely on in challenging situations.
What Is Your Biggest Weakness?
A weakness that i found was that i wasnt a very confident public speaker, and found it quite intimidating previously, and therefore felt that it was a personal goal of mine to improve upon that skill. Therefore, i chose to complete a LAMDA qualification in Public Speaking, which helped me develop breathing techniques, and have exposure in performing speeches that helped me overcome that weakness, and therefore develop into a more confident communicator, which would be an effective skill as a doctor, as the ability to communicate effectively with others is a key aspect of being able to provide positive patient care.
What Would Be Your Greatest Strength And Why?
My greatest strength is my ability to remain calm and composed under pressure. This skill allows me to think critically, make rational decisions, and maintain focus even in high-stress or urgent situations, which is a quality that is crucial in the medical field. It is especially important, as the ability to make rational medical decisions in a variety of situations is a part of being a doctor that can often be a skill that is hard to learn, and hard to prepare for. Seeing junior doctors and surgeons practically applying this skill, during surgery and when treating patients on the general surgery ward, when i shadowed them during my work experience, showed me the importnace of being able to make rational decisions under pressure, not just in the high pressure, more complex, cases but also on a day to day basis when treating patients, and therefore, i believe that having that strength would enable me to be a successful, not only medical student, but also doctor.
How Do You Deal With Stress?
I deal with stress by staying organized, setting priorities, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance, which i can recognise may be hard to do, especially during more stressful and high pressure time periods, such as when i have exams, but i find that making time for regular exercise, and seeking support from friends or mentors helps allow me to recharge and manage stress effectively. Additionally, taking time to recharge can help make me feel more productive when I have to work or study, as i have given myself a break, and then can work more productively. Being able to manage stress levels is also a skill that i have adapted, as it is a very important skill to have as a medical student and a doctor, due to the high intensity nature of being a doctor, and by having methods that i could use after working, or during my time as a medical student, it would enable me to have a healthy work life balance, which would aid my mental health in the long-term, and allow me to provide the best care i can to the patients I treat.
Do You Know When To Seek Help?
Yes, I recognize the importance of seeking help when needed. Whether it’s consulting a colleague for advice or reaching out to mentors for guidance, I understand that collaboration and acknowledging when i need someone’s help, and can no longer only work by myself, are essential for personal growth and effective problem-solving.
Why Do You Deserve A Place At This Medical School Over The Other Candidates?
I believe I deserve a place at this medical school because of my unwavering dedication to making a meaningful impact in healthcare, my commitment to academic excellence, and my ability to approach challenges with resilience and empathy. I am eager to contribute to the school’s community through my leadership skills, passion for lifelong learning, and determination to make a difference in patients’ lives. Moreover, the values and opportunities offered by this institution align perfectly with my aspirations as a future physician.

What would you change about yourself?
If I could change one thing about myself, it would be to become more comfortable with uncertainty. I tend to seek as much information as possible before making decisions, which can occasionally lead to overanalyzing situations. While this approach ensures I make thoughtful and informed choices, it sometimes slows me down in situations that require quick action or adaptability.
To address this, I’ve been working on trusting my instincts and focusing on making the best possible decision with the information available at the moment. I believe that embracing uncertainty is an essential skill, particularly in a dynamic field like medicine, where decisions often need to be made with limited clarity.
