Creativity & Ideation Flashcards
Describe the “Fuzzy Front End” model
Used to start the project before the actual problem is discovered (Identifying)
- Gijs Van Wulfen
Who is Gijs Van Wulfen?
“Fuzzy front end” and made the identification that there is 4 reasons to start innovation.
He made lists that can be used in projects:
- 15 obstacles in the fuzzy front
- 10 activities to unfuzzy your front
Describe the Stage gate model
- Robert G. Cooper
- Product development process
- Some projects the stages can be switched around, it depends on the needs
- Linear project line (no project is totally linear)
- Fuzzy front happens before the stage gate
- The model can vary depending on how the company works
What is the meaning of “an opportunity”
An idea for a new product – Ulrich and Eppinger
- The start before it is an idea
- Hypothesis about how value can be created
- 2 types:
o Knowledge of solution
o Knowledge of need
What does the Opportunity horizons tell us?
It describes how the risk of failure increases as opportunity deviates
- The further out on the axis the more you need to do and know
- The more you aim for the more it requires
Opportunity tournament
- The more the merrier
- Seek high quality
- Create high variance
Describe the Opportunity identification process
- Establish a charter
Formulate goals
Should set a direction but still broad - Generate opportunities
- Screen opportunities
- Develop promising opportunities
- Select exceptional opportunities
- Reflect
What is a charter?
Broader than a problem description, shows the high goals and passions (can be hard to achieve)
Setting ambition for the project
Diverging vs. converging model
Model for idea development by Ole Striim
Double Diamond model
The British design council. Model from problem to solution, in two main parts (research and design)
Mike Vance
Wrote a book on how to think out of the box
Edward de Bono
Simplest way to create something that wasn’t there before
- Latereal thinking
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Defined the idea of flow work
