The idea that you can make something true by just saying it strikes many as nonsensical, however it is not mysterious at all. Illocutionary speech acts (JL Austin): by saying something, we do something. Marriage (I declare you, man and wife) Newly created truths can also change the meaning of existing words - the meaning of marriage has recently changed (same sex).

Recognizing the myriad ways in which truth can be created gives us cause to be optimistic about the future.

Being creative with the truth can also be no more than a euphemism for not telling the truth. It is not always easy to distinguish those who are creating truth and those who are creatively hiding or disfiguring it. Sometimes there is a grey area that dissemblers distort.
