A flat brush with its bristles or hairs spread out like a fan. Most commonly used for blending and special effects.
Fan brush
Most common and versatile style of brush and has a very good capacity for holding paint.
Round brush
Very good detail brush and is preferred for line work, outlining, and even lettering
Liner brush
Has a square tip with long bristles which gives the brush added flexibility. Useful for blending and shading.
Flat brush
Short round brush having little belly and a very fine point at the tip. Used for intricate detail work.
Spotter brush (detailer)

Metal band around the brush that helps hold the bristles in place
Ferrule
Placing wet UV gel under the UV light for five to ten seconds
Flash cure
A nail art category that includes all free hand painting techniques that are flat not raised
Flat art
Any art that protrudes from the nail

Nail art technique where the nail bed is one color and the free edge is another color
French manicure
A competition where you may use pink white clear and glittered products to produce a unique twist on the French manicure design
French twist
Air brush system designed to pull the paint into the airbrush using gravity
Gravity fed
Point at which the bristles of the brush meet the ferrule
Heel
Designs inside a nail enhancement that are created when nail art is sandwiched between two layers of product while the nail enhancement is being formed
Inlaid designs
A swirled effect when you combine two or more colors together when wet and mix them on a nail with a marbleizing tool known as a stylus
Marbleizing
Description used for nail art when more than one nail art medium is used for a design
Mixed media
Opportunities for licensed professional or nail students to compete in a specified category where the art and theme of the nails are part of the judging criteria

The way that the brush is held to create nail art
Position
Amount of force that an artist applies to a brush while in the stroke motion when applyin nail art
Pressure
Pure pigment colors that cannot be obtained from mixing together other colors
Primary colors
The technique of pulling a liner brush across the surface of the nail to create a fluid line

Information provided for each competition so that one understands what the competition allows and does not allow

The settling or flattening out of a UV gel or other product while working

Tool with a solid handle and a rounded ball tip on each end that can range in size
Stylus
Colors resulting from mixing equal parts of one primary color and one of its nearest secondary colors
Tertiary colors
Very end of the bristles farthest from the bristles
