showing that his mother died. and that he never had a guiding light so turned to superstition to lead him through life.

chris isnt trusting anything
chris is dealing with intense division over his patriotism
chris’ militarism is embedded inside of him - he can’t break out of that mindset
how did you present the idea of chris not trusting his enviroment
uncertain phrases such as ‘i could’ or ‘i guess’ which make it so he isnt really 100% sure about any of the things he’s saying - also like i said earlier shows the instability of his position, something new to him.
