History-these show how God created the Jews and how they often refuse to listen

How is the Bible the word of God
God guided the writing of the Bible through the holy spirit
The Bible contains the word of God given by the prophet
The Bible tells the actions and teachings of Jesus in the gospel
Bible contains the writings of the apostles in the letters
How is the Bible interpreted today
Catholics are guided in the interpretations of the Bible by the magisterium
Magisterium is continually inspired and guided by the holy spirit
What happened in the creation story
Day one-day and night
Day two-created this guy
Day three-created Earth, seas and plants
Day four-created sun, moon and stars
Day five-created fish and birds
Day six-created animals and humans
Day seven-God rested
How does the creation story (Genesis 1) show the nature of God
1) “Then God said let there be light and there was light “- God is transcendent meaning God is beyond the natural world.
God is beyond human knowledge.
God only needs his word.
2) “When God created the heavens and the Earth “- God is the creator of everything.
creation is special because God created it.
And we should look after it.
3) “And God saw that it was good “-God is omnipotent.
God has the power to create from nothing.
God can create anything he wants
“God bless them saying be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the sea and let birds multiply on the Earth”- humans are special. God has a plan
“Let them have domination “- humans have authority over gods creations
“So God created humankind in his image, the image of God he created them male and female he created them “-humans share qualities with God
So we can have a closer relationship
What is the nature of humans from the creation story (Genesis 2)
1) “Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of The ground and breathed into his nostrils The breath of life and the man became a living being “ - humans share the spirit of God
God created the first man by breathing into his nostrils
Hebrew word for breathing is spirit
He cares for every human
2) “You shall not eat “-free will
God gives people free will
Because he tells Adam not to eat the apple but does not ban him
“Whatever the man called every living creature that was its name “-Adam names the animals and humans have authority and responsibility for them
“Lord God had taken from the man he made a woman and brought her to the man “ - humanity is divided into two complimentary parts
What does “the creation of Adam by Michelangelo “show us about God and humanity
Adam is the perfect human - full of strength and potential reflects that Gods Creation is “very good “
White hair and beard - God is ancient, eternal but humanity is good
God is in a brain shaped cloud - our intelligence comes from God
God and Adam are lying in similar positions showing that humans are made in the image of God
Hands reaching out-we have a need for a close relationship with God
Why does some Catholics not except aspects of Michelangelo painting
Genesis says that God created Adam by breathing into his nostrils-not by touching him
God and Adam are the same size-this could suggest man is equal to God
What does the “hand of God “ mural show us
Lines from gods hands to the edge of the universe so God created everything in the universe. His power touches all things
Gods hand is large-showing his power and greatness
What is the Catholic interpretation of the Genesis creation story
The Catholic Church teaches that these stories are myths meaning that they are stories and they are not meant to be taken literally
What is the alternate interpretation of the Genesis creations tomorrow
Fundamentalists interpret the Bible more literally.
This is because-
The Bible is the Word of God must be accurate in all respects
God loves us and so wouldn’t misleading them by misleading them
Humans have no right to prefer their own interpretation to The word of God
What is the meaning of natural law
The catholic belief that humans are born with understanding of right and wrong .it is ‘natural part of human nature’
What is the ‘neutral Law’ based on
God made all creation good
Humans are made in the image of god (We share in gods goodness)
Why is fallowing ‘natural law’ important
It is gods will
It will bring us fulfilment
