Cratchit Family quote 5

A

‘My clerk, with fifteen shillings a week, and a wife and family, talking about a merry Christmas.’ P11

This declaration demonstrates to us that the Cratchits suffer from poverty however despite this financial hardship Bob takes a risk to spend time with his family implying that family triumphs over money.

The anonymity of Bob with the use of the “clerk’ dehumanises and marginalised him who is symbol of the working class shows the societal attitude that stripped the poor of their individuality.
