CraniL Flashcards
Oculomotor nerve
•Emerges from nucleus
•Travels ventrally through tegmentum
•Through red nucleus
•Exits brainstem
•In sub-arachnoid space
•parallel to posterior communicating artery.
•Enters cavernous sinus
•Lies in lateral wall above IV nerve.
•Enters orbit via superior orbital fissure
•Splits into superior and inferior divisions
•Superior Innervates SR and levator
•Inferior Innervates MR, IR, IO, Puplis
What does the ocular motor supply
Mr, SR, IR, IO AND LPS
Trochlear nerve
•Emerges from nucleus.
•Fibers cross before leaving midbrain.
•Right nucleus supplies left SO
•Left nucleus supplies right SO
•Fibers exit dorsal midbrain
•Only CN to do so
•In sub-arachnoid space
•Nerve passes around cerebral peduncle
•Enters cavernous sinus
•Lies in lateral wall below III and above
What does the trochlear nerve supply
So
Abducens nerve
Emerges from nucleus.
•Fibers pass ventrally through pons
•Runs in Dorello’s canal
•In sub-arachnoid space
•Travels up petrous temporal bone
•Enters cavernous sinus
•Adjacent to internal carotid artery
•Not in the wall
•Enters orbit though superior orbital fissure
•Supplies lateral rectus
What does the abducens nerve supply
Supplies LR muscle
