Q
Abducens Nerve
- List CN
- List the holes (Foramen)
- Modality
- Function
A
- CN VI
- Superior orbital fissure
Modality - Somatic motor (General somatic efferent) - T supply the lateral rectus muscle of the eye - moves the eyeballs outwards
8
Q
Facial Nerve
- List CN
- List the holes (Foramen)

A
- CN VII
- Internal acoustic meatus
Modality (four!) - Brachial motor (Special visceral efferent) - To supply the stapedius, stylohyoid, posterior belly of digastric muscles, the muscles of facial expressions**, including buccinator, platysma and occipitals muscles
Visceral Motor (parasympathetic) - For stimulation of the lacrimal, submandibular, and sublingual glands, as well as the mucous membrane of the nose, and hard and soft palates
General Sensory - stuff in ear
Special Sensory - For taste from the anterior two-thirds of the tongue and the hard and soft palates
Synapsing Ganglia - Pterygoplatine ganglia AND Submandibular ganglia
9
Q
Vestibulochochlear Nerve
- List CN
- List the holes (Foramen)
- Modality
- Function
A
- CN VIII
Internal acoustic meatus
Modality - Special Sensory (Special afferent)
Function - Auditory information from the cochlea (impulses) - Balance information from the semicircular canals (equilibrium)
10
Q
Glossopharyngeal Nerve
- List CN
- List the holes (Foramen)
- Modality
- Function
- List synapsing ganglia
A
- CN IX
- Jugular foramen
Modality (every fucking one - five!)
Branchial motor - to supply the striated muscle, the stylopharyngeus
Visceral motor - to supply the otic ganglion, which sends fibers to stimulate the parotid gland
Visceral sensory - Carries sensation (subconscious) from the carotid body and from the carotid sinus
General sensory - Provides general sensation from the posterior one-third of the tongue, the skin of the external ear, and the internal surface of the tympanic membrane
Special sensory - For taste from the posterior one-third of the tongue
11
Q
Vagus Nerve
- List CN
- List the holes (Foramen)
- Modality
- Function
- List synapsing ganglia
A
- CN X
Jugular foramen
Modality - four of them
Branchial motor - To striated muscles of the pharynx, tongue, and larynx
Visceral motor - TO smooth muscle and glands of the pharynx, larynx, and thoracic and abdominal viscera
Visceral sensory - Nausea. From the larynx, trachea, esophagus, and thoracic and abdominal viscera, stretch receptors in the walls of the aortic arch, chemoreceptors in the aortic bodies adjacent to the arch
General sensory - Ear and phalynx
12
Q
Accessory Nerve
- List CN
- List the holes (Foramen)
- Modality
