Cranial Nerves Flashcards
How is the cerebellum connected to the brainstem?
By 3 cerebellar penducles (white fibre tracts)
How (and which ones) many cranial nerves have their nuclei in the brainstem?
9 of the 12 nerves, numbers III to XII, except XI
Name the sections of the brainstem’s internal structure
Tectum (roof), tegmentum and base
Name the parts of the brainstem (functional separation)
Midbrain, pons, medulla (oblongata)
How many cerebellar peduncle do we have and what are the called?
Middle, inferior and superior cerebellar peduncle
Why is the upper medulla called the open medulla
Because it has an open top, where you can see the 4th ventricle
Which nerves emerge from the open medulla?
IX, X and XII
