Cranial nerves Flashcards
1
Olfactory = smell Problem = anosmia
2
Optic = vision Problem = blindness
3
oculomotor =
somatic motor = eye muscles + levator palpebrae (SO4 LR6 AR3)
visceral (autonomic) motor = parasympathetic to pupil (constriction) + ciliary muscle (accommodation of lens)
4
trochlear = superior oblique Problem = diplopia (double vision)
5
trigeminal = opthalmic, maxillary, mandibular
general sensory from area (+ V3 motor in muscles of mastication, part digastric, tensor veli palatini + tensor tympani)
6
abducens = lateral rectus
7
facial
somatic motor = muscles of facial expression, scalp, stapedieus, digastric
visceral motor = parasympathetic (sub) salivary, lacrimal + nose glands
sensory = taste (ant 2/3rd tongue) + general sensory from external acoustic meatus
BELL’S PALSY
8
vestibulocochlear = sensory from ear - position + movement hearing Problem = tinnitus, vertigo, nystagmus
9
glossopharyngeal
taste posterior 3rd tongue, general sensations from middle ear + posterior mouth
visceral sensations from carotid body + sinus
visceral motor = parasympathetic of parotid gland
somatic motor = stylopharyngeus
Problem = loss of gag reflex + taste
10
vagus = taste from epiglottis + palate sensation from pinna + EAM visceral sensory from everywhere visceral motor = parasympathetic in bronchi, gut, heart somatic motor = throat
11
accessory = motor of soft palate, phar + larynx, sternocleidomastoid + trapezius
12
hypoglossal = motor to tongue
