TRIGEMINAL
Sensory + Motor
Bilateral innervation (sensation is contralateral)
Sensation from face/head, sensation to anterior 2/3 tongue, anterior 1/2 pinna, ear drum
Motor- chewing muscles, soft palate, Tensor tympani
Nuclei location: Midbrain, pons, medulla

FACIAL
Sensory + Motor
Upper face= bilateral, lower face= contralateral
Sensation: Taste from anterior 2/3 of tongue, sensation to part of ear canal
Motor- muscles of facial expression, stapedius, hyoid elevation
Other- Saliva, tear production
Nuclei location: Medulla, pons

VESTIBULOCOCHLEAR
Sensory
Audition, balance, vestibulo-ocular reflex
Nuclei location: medulla, pons
CN 9
GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL
Sensory + Motor
Bilateral innervation
Sensory: Sensation to middle ear, upper pharynx, taste, sensation for posterior 1/3 tongue
Motor: Elevates pharynx, gag reflex
Nuclei location: Medulla, pons

VAGUS
Sensory + Motor
Bilateral innervation
Sensory: Sensation from pharynx, taste, from epiglottis/pharynx
Motor: Movement of pharynx and larynx (swallowing and phonation)
Other: Parasympathetic innervation to the heart, lungs, digestive tract
CN 11
SPINAL ACCESSORY
Motor
Bilateral innervation
Helps head turn, raise shoulders
Nuclei location: Cervical spinal cord
CN 12
HYPOGLOSSAL
Motor
Contralateral innervation
Tongue movements
