Limited output, cannot read or write, few recognizable words
Paraphasia
Speech disturbance from brain damage in which words are jumbled and sentences meaningless
Hat –> Dat
Telephone –> Tephalone
Phonemic paraphasia
“Orange” instead of “Apple”
“Son” instead of “Daughter”
Semantic Paraphasia
Always a real word, but may not be related to target word
Neologisms
Using new words or made up words
“Slunker” for “Toothbrush”
“Glimbop” for “shirt”

Difficulty with using basic grammar and syntax, word order and sentence structure deficits
“Wife come hospital”
