Cranial nerve Flashcards
Cranial Nerve II
Optic nerve controls sense of vision
Test vision for acuity and visual fields
Cranial Nerve I
Olfactory nerve controls the sense of smell
Test each nostril from smell reception with various agents and interpretations
Cranial nerve III
Oculomotor pupil construction raise eyelids
Test reaction to light and ability to open and close eyelids
Cranial Nerve IV
Trochlear downward inward eye movement
Test eyes movement down and inward
Cranial Nerve V
Trigeminal jaw movement chewing and mastication sensation of face and next
Test: open and clench jaw while you palpate
Use light touch on face to test sensation
Cranial Nerve VI
Abducens lateral movement of the eyes
Test ocular movement in all directions
Cranial Nerves VII
Facial muscle of the face . Sense of taste in the anterior two thirds of the tongue
Test raise eyebrows, smile, show teeth and puff out cheeks. For sensation with various agents
Cranial Nerves VIII
Vestiocochelear (acoustic) : sense of hearing
Test hearing ability whisper test
Cranial Nerves IX
Glossopharyngeal: pharyngeal movement and swallowing . Sense of taste on the posterior 1/3 of the tongue
Test have PT. Say ah and yawn to to observe the upward movement of soft palate; elicit gag reflex
Cranial Nerves X
Vagus: gag reflex; swallowing and speaking without hoarseness
Test: ask pt. To swallow and speak ; note hoarseness
Cranial Nerve XI
Accessory : movement of shoulder muscles
Turn head against resistance
Test: ask pt. To shrug shoulders against resistance
Cranial nerve XII
Hypoglossal : movement of the tongue strength of the tongue
Test: ask pt to protrude tongue ask pt to push tongue against cheek
Frontal Lobe
Controls emotions judgements, motor aspects of speech, primary motor cortex for voluntary muscle activation area of higher level functioning
Parietal Lobe
Receives fibers with sensory information about touch proprioception (awareness of posture and where ones body is in space) temperature and pain from the other side of the body
Occipital Lobe
Primary vision center and interoperation of visual data
