A

To make longer-chain hydrocarbons into shorter more useful hydrocarbons.

A
  • The hydrocarbons are heated until they vaporise.
  • The vapour is passed over a hot catalyst.
  • Thermal decomposition reaction takes place.
  • Products include alkanes and alkenes.
