“I wish i had him hear I’d give him a peace of my mind” her anger is calmed by her husbands reminder that it is
Christmas - here Dicken’s is setting out the expectations of forgiveness and goodwill to others.
What sort of person is Bob (2)
Bod is depicted as a dedicated employee even though Scrooge treats him badly -
despite being a down trodden employee he finds comfort and joy in his family and is excited for Christmas
how does dickens get the reader to feel empathy for Bob and understand Scrooge has no concern for his welfare
At the start of the novella we see Bob is unable to keep warm at work and tries to “warm himself at the candle” we learn Scrooge has a small fire but Bob’s is even smaller but the coal is kept in Scrooges office so he can not make it bigger
What does Tiny Tim represent and who inspired him
Tiny Tim is inspired by Dickens own nephew, he represents children in Victorian society who were vulnerable becasue of their disabilities
how does Tiny Tim reinforce christian values
Tim is loved by Bob who carries “tiny Tim on his shoulder” reinforces in the eyes of God all childfen have value.
how is Tiny Tim depicted
as a good angelic child and encourages chritians to think about biblical stories where Jesus doesnt ignore disabled.
he is the symbol of Scrooges transformation at the end - it is thanks to Scrooges money his condition improves.
what is the importance of Peter (4)
1 he is bobs eldest son.
2 Bob found him a job
3 he is wearing Bobs old shirt, it is to big as the collar is “monstrous” - perhaps suggesting he is to young for the world of work and emphasises the families poverty
4 Peter is proud of his clothes “yearned to show his linen off in fashionable parks” - a reference to London Parks where the upper class show off their finery - This represents Peters hopes of working class bettering themselves
what is the importance of Matha
bobs eldest daughter
an apprentice hat maker
she represents the underpaid female apprentices - her income is needed to suppliment Bobs wage
through her character we are reminded of the working conditions of apprentices
she is late to her parents house as she has to work long hours even on Christmas day.
