Q

How can 3rd party fans provide more efficient cooling?

A
  • Fans can be larger, which means they turn slower and withdraw the same amounts of heat but are less noisy
  • Fans can be larger, and faster - cool more and quieter
  • Liquid cooling - which is a bit more complicated but it reduces fan noise

Q

Describe how liquid cooling works and its benefits

A

Liquid cooling uses a pump, a radiator, and a cooling block to help cool the CPU.

The cooling block sits on top of the CPU and has liquid in it. A pump will move hot liquid away from the CPU to the radiator (that looks very similar to a cars radiator) and cools the liquid. This liquid, once cooled, is returned to the cooling block where it cools the CPU.

Liquid cooling is very robust and efficient and allows for quieter fans by allowing them to run a slower speeds.

Q

Why do enthusiasts care about upgrading their cooling?

A

Aesthetics, comfort (quieter fans), and increased performance. By removing more heat, it allows for overclocking.
