CPU And Componants Flashcards
What is the CPU?
The CPU is used to process data, to fetch, decode and execute instructions. The central processing unit.
What is meant by a register?
A component used to store short term memory, used to store addresses or data currently being worked upon
What is the memory address register used for?
Used to store the address of the next instruction
What is the memory data register used for?
Used to store data to be sent to memory program counter
What is the accumulator used for?
Used to store value/calculation currently being worked on
To hold the results of calculations
What is the arithmetic lodging unit used for?
Used to perform arithmetic calculations
What is the control unit used for?
Controls the flow of data in the CPU, controls input and output of data in the CPU and controls the timing of signals sent in the CPU, it decodes instructions and controls the execution of instructions in the correct order.
What is the use of cache?
Stores frequently used used instructions and data on the CPU so it can be accessed quicker
PC, MAR, MDR, CU,ACC, ALU. Which 2 of these 6 aren’t registers?
The ALU, arithmetic logging unit and the CU, control unit
What does the number of cores effect?
How many instructions can be done simultaneously
What does the clock speed effect?
How many cycles can be undertook at one time, make sure everything takes place at the right ordered time
