What is chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia, and features

A
  • mitochondrial disorder
  • associated with Kearns sagre syndrome

Features
- progressive symmetrical loss of mobility
- usually upgaze is the first to be affected
- normal pupils and accommodation
- slowly progressive diplopia
- late stage has no eye movement due to fibrosis

Ocular myositis - signs and symptoms

A
  • inflammatory swelling of one or more EOMs
  • pseudotumour
  • Px presents with painful diplopia

Signs/symptoms
- acute pain
- proptosis
- diplopia
- oedema
- chemosis
- underlying inflammatory disease
- sinusitis or cellulitis

A
  • acute onset but can be chronic

  • ensur not rhabdomyosarcoma
