CPDLC And FMS Flashcards
What is a flight management system (FMS)?
A computerised avionics component found on most commercial/businesses aircraft to assist pilots in navigation, flight planning and aircraft control functions
What 3 components make up the FMS?
The Flight management computer (FMC)
Auto Flight System (AFS)
Navigation
Navigation system (IRS n GPS)
What is the core function of the FMC?
Compute real-time navigation
Calculate performance data
What does CPDLC stand for?
Controller pilot data link
How does CPDLC communicate information?
Through text messages
What is CPDLC?
A data link application that allows for the direct exchange of text messages between controller and pilot
List the benefits of CPDLC
Allow crew to print messages
Allowing auto load of specific uplink messages into the FMS reducing crew input errors
Allowing crew to downlink complex route clearances and requests which ATCOs can re-send when approved without having to type a long string of coordinates
Are both CPDLC and ADS both data link applications?
Yes.
What is the main difference between CPDLC and ADS-B?
Human interaction.
