How?
Find the mass of the system with all the masses on
Set up light gates with a data logger
Measure the length of the card on the trolley
Release the trolley and find the initial and final velocity
Use that to find the momentum change
Move the masses that were on the trolley onto the hanging mass
repeat the process and make a graph of momentum change/ time
Reducing uncertainty?
Use of light gates
Use of an air track
Use of a ramp so that it’s at Fmax
Problems
Friction between the trolley and the ramp
Need for a tilted ramp so the trolley is on the point of slipping
Friction will decrease the velocity and the gradient of the graph
What’s the graph of this practical?
mT against v (T is the time in which the force is acting on the trolley)
