Vertebrae and their positions
- C7- vertebra prominens
- T3- scapular spine
- T7- inf. angle of scapula
- T12- bottom of ribs

Different levels of assistance
- Min assist-Patient able to do 75%
- Mod assist- patient an do 25-75%
- Max assist- patient only able to do 25%
- dependent- patient can’t voluntarily move
Pulse Quality Scale
- 0 = absent- no perceptible pulse
- 1+ = thready- barely perceptible, easily obliterated with slight pressure, fades in and out
- 2+ = weak- difficult to palpate, can be obliterated with slight pressure
- 3+ = normal- easy to palpate, requires moderate pressure to obliterate
- 4+ = bounding- very strong, hyperactive, cannot obliterate with moderate pressure
Heart Rate Norms w/ Age
Newborn- 120-160
Infant- 100-120
Children- 80-100
Adult- 60-100
BP Norms w/ Age
Neonate: -SBP = >60 -DBP = highly variable Infants: -SBP = 70-95 -DBP = highly variable Children: -SBP = 80-110 -DBP = highly variable Adults: -SBP = 90-120 -DBP = 60-80
BP categories in adults
Normal: -SBP = <120 -DBP = <80 Elevated: -SBP = 120-129 -DBP = <80 Stage 1 HTN: -SBP = 130-139 -DBP = 80-89 Stage 2 HTN: -SBP = 140 or higher -DBP = 90 or higher HTN Crisis: -SBP = higher than 180 -DBP = higher than 120
Ankle Brachial Index (ABI)
- 0.90 or less = peripheral arterial disease, increased risk for cardiovascular events
- > 1.50 abnormal finding
Respiration Norms w/ Age
Newborn- 40-60 Infants- 25-50 Children- 15-30 Adults- 12-20 Elderly- may increase
Borg Breathlessness Scale
0 – only with strenuous exercise
1 – Trouble when hurrying on level ground or up slight hill
2 – On level ground walks slower than those same age or has to stop to catch breath
3 – Stops for breath after 100 yd / few min on level ground
4 – Too breathless to leave house or becomes breathless while dressing
Avg Temp Range
Adult men and women- 95.9 to 98.6
O2 sat levels
90% and above is normal
85% or under is severe hypoxia
How often is a progress/ re-evaluation done
Every 10 visits/ every 30 or 60 days
Pitting Edema Classification
1+ = barely detectable impression 2+ = 15 seconds to rebound 3+ = 30 seconds to rebound 4+ = >30 seconds to rebound
