Define social psychology.
This examines the effects of social variables and cognitions.
-Attempts to understand behaviour within its social context.
How do social situations affect behaviour?
-We adapt to the demands of the social situation
-Take social cues from others behaviour.
Define Situationism and Dispositionism.
-Situationism: External enviroment, or behavioural context can have subtle/forceful effects on a persons behaviour. e.g peer pressure
-Dispositionism: Tendency to attribute behaviour to internal factors such as genes, personality traits and character quality.
Define Social Role.
A pattern of behaviour that is expected of a person in a given setting or group.
Define Social Norm.
Groups expectations regarding what is appropriate and accepatble for its members attitude and behaviour.
Name some group characteristics that impact conformity.
-When the group majority is unanimous
-When the judgement task is ambiguous
-Group members are seen as competent
-When responses are given publicly.
What is a “groupthink”
Psychological phenomenon that occurs within the group when the desire for harmony and conformity in the group results in an irrational and dysfunctional decision-making outcome

-Exchange theories: social rs transactions in which partners excahnge goods and services.

-Intimacy

*Romantic love= Passion + Intimacy
*Infatuation = High Passion
*Complete love = All three
*Companionate love = Intimacy+Committment
Define stereotype and define prejudice and discrimination
-Stereotype: Belief/expectation about a group of people
-Prejudice: An unfavourable attitude towards a group of people
Bonus: Discrimination: Unequal treatment of different groups of people.

Define Terrorism
Use of violent, unpredictable acts by a small group against a larger group for political, economic, or religious goals.
