How did COVID-19 occur at the beginning?

  • First in wuhan in December of 2019
  • Zoonotic infection (bat to human)
  • Initially considered viral pneumonia
  • British gover nment critisesed for lateness of lockdown + disorganisation and efficiency
  • Department of health and social care (along with public health England) raised risk of virus form very low to low
  • Presented symptoms (dry cough, long cough repetitive)
  • BJ expressed apprehention
    o Economical impacts of covid
    o Trigegr panic and unnecessary economic damage that goes beyond medical rational

How did COVID enter the UK

A
  • 13 march, WHO declared Europe as an active centre of pandemic
  • Lockdown in Italy and spread
    Progression in the UK:
  • March- acute viral transmission , policy u turns , public lockdown
  • Level 4 incident: NHS England taking full control of NHS resources
  • Preexisting medical conditions= avoiding travel
  • Government scientific advisor said that herd immunity was w c hat we needed to do
  • Matt hancock said that this isn’t the case
  • 16th march= Johnson said to avoid all non essential travel, public gatherings, pubs, clubs, theatres
  • Pregnant women= complications of covid
  • 17th march: NHS England announced that all non-urgent operations would be postponed from 15th April (30 000 hospital beds released)
  • Furlough scheme-> provide governmental grants to employers. This means they would pay staff 80% of monthly wage
    o Prevents people being made redundant
