Natural Cover
Ravines, Divots, hollows, reverse slopes etc.
Artificial Cover
Fighting Positions, trenches, walls etc.
Concealment
Natural or artificial protection from enemy observation.
Natural Concealment
Concealment that needs no change before use - bushes, grass, shadows, etc.
Artificial Concealment
Concealment created from materials like camouflage nets or the rearrangement of natural materials.
1st Principle of Concealment
Avoid unnecessary movement. Remain still - movement attracts attention, especially against a stationary background.
2nd Principle of Concealment
Consider all available concealment:
Background - Select a tree of bush to blend with and to absorb the figure outline. Assume that the shooter is always under observation.
Shadows - Never fire from the edge of the Woodline; fire from within the Woodline, in the shade.
3rd Principle of Concealment
Stay low to observe. A low silhouette makes it difficult for the enemy to see the shooter.
4th Principle of Concealment
Avoid shiny reflections. Reflection of light on a shiny surface instantly attracts attention and can be seen at a great distance.
5th Principle of Concealment
Avoid skylining. Figures on the skyline can be seen from a great distance, even at night.
6th Principle of Concealment
Alter familiar outlines. Equipment and human bodies are familiar outlines to the enemy.
7th Principle of Concealment
Observe noise discipline. Noise, like talking, can be picked up by enemy patrol or observation.
1st Rule of Concealed Movement
Always assume the area is under enemy observation
2nd Rule of Concealed Movement
Move slowly. Count your movement by feet and inches.
