serial and parallel transmission
a method that sends several bits of data over different channels simultaneously. multiple bits , typically 8 btis or a byte/character, are sned simultaneously on different channels within the same cable, or radio path and synchronized to a clock
parallel transmission
a methos of transmission that sends bits of data over a single channel one after another. bits are sent sequentially on the same channel, which reduces the costs for wire but slows the speed of transmission.
serial transmission can be categorized according to the timing. synchronous, isochronous, asynchronous
serial transmission
a type of communication that takes place when people are connected at the same time or real time, like in phone calls, skype, text chat and face to face talk
synchronous communication
a communication that refers to a process where data must be delivered within a certain time constraint or is time dependent
isochronous communication
a communication that is used to describe communication in which data can be transmitted at irregular intervals rather than in steady stream
asynchronous communication
a communication that utilizes a transmitter, a receiver and a wires without coordination about the timing of individual bits
asynchronous communication
the transmitter and receiver do not explicitly coordinate each data transmission.
