Course Packet 01 Flashcards
It can be encoded in different forms of energy depending on the transmission media use on the network
data
It can be in the form of electrical, light, radio or sound, and each form of energy has different properties and requirements for transmission.
energy
It refers communication in two direction, where only one party can communicate at a time.
half-duplex
It refers to one way transmission where data travel over a medium
simplex
It refers to the transmission of data in two way directions simultaneously.
full-duplex
It is a communication pathway that carries data from sender to receiver.
transmission Media
a type of transmission media, also known as guided media, uses physical channels or paths to carry signal or messages from the sender to the receiver
wired transmission media
It is preferred due to its low resistance to current, which enables signals to travel faster.
copper wire
it is the most common form of cable today. it is used to connect telephone subscribers to exchanges and used to interconnect computers on a local area network (LAN)
twisted pair wires
a wire that is twisted together for the purpose of cancelling out electromagentic interference (EMI) from external resources
twisted pair wires
a service which make use of twisted pair wires. that enables voice conversations and digital transmissions with the aid of a modem. this service is also referred to as PSTN or the public switched telephone network
POTS
a digital service that is designed to handle vast volumes of information and has a range of possible applications including high-speed modem communication and remote video conferencing
ISDN
a service that offers high-speed digital telephone services to subscriber which provides a faster alternative to conventional analog modems that joins subscriber to high-speed wireless backbon network
ADSL
a cable that has no ground shield. it is composed of two conductrs coated with a plastic sheath then twisted around each other.
unshielded twisted pair
a cable that are special kind of copper telephone wiring used in some business installations. it composed of an outer covering or shield
shielded twisted pair
this cable are more commonly known as the wiring used for cable TV. it permits high-speed data transmission with a minimum of signal distortion because it provides greater protection form interference than twisted pair
coaxial cable
this cable is used to transport data as laser generated pulse of light.
fiber optic cable
a type of transmission data that uses air as its channel for carrying the signals in waveform. it utilizes signal generation devices from source and destination endpoints
wireless transmission media
the transmission of these signals is line of sight, indication that there should be no physical obstacles between the sending and receiving devices.
microwave system
satellite systems comprises of ground based transmitter and receiver dishes, with a orbital satellite circuit called responder
orbital satellite transmission
it is an earth bound station used in satellite communications of data, voice and video signals, excluding broadcast television.
very small aperture terminal
