-Refers to Mrs Dubose’s commitment to beating her morphine addiction before death.
-She knows that she will die but still does it.
-Also reinforced when Atticus defends TR knowing he cannot win and that the jury will find Tom guilty no latter what.

-Sees a glimmer of hope in the fact that the jury did not find TR guilt immediately.
-AT least one member might have believed TR’s innocence showing courage as they spoke out.

-If he lacked the courage to defend TR in his trial he would not be a good lawyer of a good father.
-he is courageous in defending Tom and wants Tim and Scout to understand how important it is to do the right thing.
-He knows he and his children will be scrutinised for it but does it regardless, showing courage.
