March of progress- they are becoming more equal- joint and segregated conjugal roles, young and wilmott- symmetrical family

Feminists- women still do most of the housework. Oakley- men “helped” but men still do more. Boulton - we need to look at who is responsible not who performs the role.

Feminists - women now have a dual burden and triple shift. Only 1% of men take care of sick children.

Cultural ; Patriarchy - norms and values shape gender roles in our culture, women perform more domestic due to societal explanations. Gershuny- couples whose parents had equal relationships were more likely to split evenly.

Material-
Women earn less- economically rational for them to do more housework.
Ramos- when the woman is the full time breadwinner, they do the same amount of domestic labour.

Radical feminists - the cause is Patriarchy - men oppress women, the state is male dominated, they feel they should have power ver women. Proven through that it usually occurs when women threaten men’s authority.

Materialists- kids, or people etc can lack resources causing stress which can lead to violence
Marxists feminists- exploited male workers take their frustration out on their wives.
