- palpate for potential presence of counterstain points/tender points
- establish a tenderness scale
- positioning of patient for treatment

A
incorrect diagnosis leading to ineffective treatment
pt’s body not positioned properly to reduce tender point tenderness
forgetting to maintain light contact at tender point throughout treatment
pt’s body not held in proper position for an adequate period of time to obtain a therapeutic effect
pt cannot totally relax to allow proper positioning of their body
physician does not finalize diagnosis and treatment effect by forgetting to retest tender point after treatment
