Self-report
Case discussion. This is the most common method of supervision, but it is the least useful
Process Notes
Written records of content discussed and processed.
Audiotapes
Direct and useful info regarding what was said during the session
Videotapes
Similar to audiotapes, but reveals nonverbal communication
Live Supervision
Provides the most accurate and useful information for supervisee and supervisor
What are the qualities of an effective supervisor?
-Supportive/Non-judgmental. -Balanced between monitoring/evaluating and fostering a collaborative supervisory relationship (empower trainees). -Knowledgeable/well-trained. -Ethical professionals who discuss ethical issues. -Understand power of differential and do not abuse this. -Act as a role model
What are some supervisor incompetents?
-Boundary violations. -Misuse of power. -Sexual relations with trainees. -Substance Abuse. -Burnout. -Diminished clinical judgment.
What are the three legal issues of supervision?

What are the legal aspects of supervision?
-Students must inform clients of their trainee status, meet with the supervisor on a regular basis, may discuss clinical info at team meetings. -Supervisors have access to the info accrued from the trainees sessions, Supervisors are directly responsible for the treatment and welfare of the trainees clients. -Must make sure that the trainee and clients are fully informed on the limits of confidentiality and duty to warn or protect.
